the stone of the sun

As if the heart were strong enough,
i proceed,
tail between my legs.
and a smile that could break ice.

Caught too, in the dawn
of a day I've never seen, my eyes
feel for the light
as if my steps were not from the grave.

Moving now along the road,
roaring flowers become,
halos of my strength,
and my veins hold well the beating blood.

The flavor of flowing feet
is mine and the Earth's;
with each step I wake
to my dreams and make them real.

As if the dust were my very
own bones, I breathe
a life from my feet to my head,
and I still my heart in the stone of the sun.
